ok so to start my blog off I think I will talk about my experience so far with windows and with linux and why I switched.
I have been using windows for about 10 years when I used to mess around on my grandparents PC that had windows 95 and later 98 on it.
I always though of the computer in the same right as a game console and at that time never realized it's true potential.
about 6 years later I got my first PC at the age of 11 and it came outfitted with windows and everything I thought I needed at the time including full wireless capability and a great Video card for the time.
I also started heavy use of the Internet at this time and mostly used AOL at the time to Communicate with other people of similar age to me.
Through most of my years I used Windows XP and so far it hasn't failed me at any point (I did try vista btw) but starting a couple years ago I started trying to try linux only to be held back by the fact that the wireless hardware I had was incompatible at the time causing me to ignore it for a time.
though it was nice I never got around to heavy use and I couldn't understand it until recently.
It was only a couple months ago that I decided to get the latest Distro of Ubuntu and try again on my new PC I had built earlier this year.
So far linux has been able to do just about everything I used windows for and I have no problems with it.
Now on to the comparisons.
Imho Linux just boots up and shuts down faster while maintaining support for all my saved files and music.
it also has much better graphic enhancements compared to windows thanks to a nice little GUI called Gnome and it's pairing Compiz Fusion.
so far windows only has one thing on Linux that may make me consider going back is the fact that it has games like the Sims that won't work on Linux.
though that may change soon as I'm taking some of my old computer parts that I used to use on my first computer (can play ts2) and building a new PC just for those games.
So at this time linux is better in almost all areas exept for gaming but that is rapidly changing so watch for linux to be compeating with windows and OSX on the OS market very soon.
also I think I will photograph my progress as I work on my special Sims machine and post my progress here so watch for updates.
